Abridged Book Description[]

Rather than faithfully adapt the book many said could never be adapted to the big screen, Cronenberg instead responded by intentionally making it even more complicated, incorporating elements not only from several of Burrough's other works but from the author's life as well... Just as Cronenberg combines fact and fiction, the film itself concerns that nether region between the real and the unreal, a place where drug-fueled hallucinations are not only the imaginative impetus for the creative process but the product of it.
