Abridged Book DescriptionEdit

Having originally been adapted by Howard Hawks in 1951 as The Thing From Another World, this 1982 version by John Carpenter eschews the Boy's Own Adventure of the Hawks film and goes straight for claustrophobia and existential dread. Carpenter's The Thing proved to be one of the most influential horror movies of the '80s, much imitated but rarely bettered.
